At Đông Ba Brewery, we have always believed that beer is more than something you drink. It can be a way to tell stories, to remember a place, and to bring people a little closer to the spirit of where it was made.

That is one of the reasons we recently created our own Huế Travel Guide.

Why we created a travel guide for Huế

We are not a travel company. We are a small local craft brewery in Huế, brewing fresh beer on site and welcoming guests from many different parts of the world. But after meeting so many travelers at our brewery, we noticed one simple thing: many people come to Huế with only one or two days to explore, and they often ask the same questions.

Where should we go first?
What should we eat?
Is there something local, not too touristy?
How can we experience Huế in a short time without rushing too much?

Huế is a city that deserves time. It has imperial history, quiet rivers, old garden houses, local food stalls, hidden cafés, pagodas, markets, and small streets that feel like they are holding stories from another century. But we understand that not every traveler has a long schedule. Some people arrive for a quick stop between Đà Nẵng, Hội An, Phong Nha, or Hà Nội. Some only have one evening. Some have two days and want to make them count.

So we decided to make a simple, useful guide for travelers who want to enjoy Huế more easily.

What the travel guide offers for a short trip

Our Huế Travel Guide is designed especially for short trips. It suggests places that are worth visiting, routes that make sense, and local food spots that we genuinely think visitors should try. We wanted it to feel practical, not overwhelming. A small map of ideas, not a heavy textbook. Something you can open quickly, read easily, and use while walking around the city.

We spent time looking into the destinations, the timing, the local experiences, and the food suggestions. We wanted the guide to include famous places, of course, but also the kind of local details that make a trip warmer: a bowl of bún bò Huế in the right mood, a quiet stop near the river, a market walk, a coffee break, or a place to sit down at night after a long day of exploring.

The local spirit behind the guide and our beer

For us, this guide is not only about travel. It is also about our identity.

Đông Ba Brewery is a small craft brewery that was born in Huế, and we want our beers to carry something from this city. We do not want to make beer that could belong anywhere. We want to make beer that feels connected to the place we call home.

That local spirit can be seen in some of the beers we have developed. Our tamarind beer, inspired by the familiar sour and refreshing taste that many Vietnamese people love. Our salted lime beer, which carries a bright and playful local character. Even the names of some of our beers are connected to Huế, its markets, its river, its colors, and its daily life.

These are small choices, but they matter to us.

Craft beer, in our opinion, should not only be about hops, malt, yeast, and technique. Those things are important, and we care about them deeply. But craft beer can also be about memory, place, culture, and personality. A glass of beer can carry a little bit of local weather, local food, local conversation, and local rhythm.

That is why creating a Huế Travel Guide felt natural for us.

We want travelers to enjoy our beer, but we also want them to enjoy the city around it. We want someone to visit the Imperial City in the afternoon, eat something delicious from a local kitchen, walk along the Perfume River, and then end the day with a fresh craft beer brewed right here in Huế. Not as a checklist, but as a small and meaningful experience.

Huế is not always loud. Its beauty is often quiet. It appears in old walls after the rain, in the smell of herbs from a bowl of local food, in slow afternoons by the river, and in the gentle way people speak to each other. We hope our guide helps visitors notice those little things.

As a small brewery, we know we cannot represent the whole city. Huế is much bigger, deeper, and older than us. But we can contribute in our own way. We can brew beers that respect local character. We can welcome travelers with honest hospitality. And now, we can share a guide that helps people discover more of Huế, even when they only have a short time here.

How to use the travel guide at your own pace

Start with one thing you would like to remember from your visit: a heritage site, a meal or a slow afternoon by the river. Then use the guide to find nearby stops that fit around it. This gives the day a clear starting point while leaving space for the small discoveries that make travel personal.

With one day, concentrate on one main area and add a meal and a break nearby. With two days, you can consider another half-day for places farther from the center. Treat this as a planning approach rather than a fixed itinerary. Your accommodation, arrival time, onward transport, the weather and how far you enjoy walking will all affect what feels comfortable.

Before visiting, check opening hours, ticket prices and visitor rules with each attraction’s official channels. For background, the UNESCO description of the Complex of Hué Monuments explains the heritage setting. Our guide helps you choose a direction; practical details still deserve a fresh check close to your travel date.

For food stops, tell the restaurant about your preferences and dietary requirements before ordering. Leave time to enjoy the meal instead of fitting too many places into one afternoon. If you are considering a final stop at the brewery, you can browse our beers and book a table. The guide is a starting point, and the day is still yours to shape.

Start with the guide for 1–2 days in Huế

If you are planning to visit Huế for one or two days, we hope our travel guide makes your trip smoother, tastier, and more memorable. Use it as a starting point, then let the city surprise you a little.

And when the day slows down, we would be happy to welcome you to Đông Ba Brewery for a fresh local craft beer, brewed right here in the heart of Huế.

Because for us, beer and travel have something in common: both are better when they carry a sense of place.
